About the Department
As a seasonal Park Maintenance Worker with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, you will help keep Cowans Gap State Park welcoming and well cared for. This role will give you the chance to work with tools, equipment, and the natural environment while learning valuable maintenance skills. Position Duties
In this position, you will support the daily upkeep and operation of Cowans Gap State Park by performing a wide range of manual and semi-skilled tasks. The work you will do helps ensure that park facilities remain safe, clean, and functional for public use. As a seasonal Park Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties:
- General Maintenance: Carry out routine upkeep and assist skilled workers with construction and repair tasks around the park
- Facility Care: Clean restrooms and buildings using basic cleaning tools and supplies to maintain a safe and sanitary environment
- Grounds Work: Mow grass, trim vegetation, remove debris, and maintain park landscapes using mowers, trimmers, and other equipment
- Equipment Operation: Use chainsaws, tractors, chippers, vehicles, and small equipment to complete assigned maintenance tasks
- Repairs and Installation: Make minor repairs and install park amenities such as benches, grills, and signs using hand tools and basic trade skills
- Visitor Support: Provide helpful information to park guests and complete required forms and records accurately

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until October 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
Work shifts and days will vary. The employee will work 37.5 hours per week across 5 days, which may include weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
