About the Department
The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.
This position is located at Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer, LA. The purpose of this position is to supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of professional or non-professional park staff involved in the day-to-day operation, administration, construction, and maintenance of the site. The incumbent of this position demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
Position Duties
Four years of experience in the operation, administration, or maintenance of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites; or in parks or conservation work; OR
Four years of experience in law enforcement, interpretive services, mobile equipment operation, building construction or maintenance.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Job Duties:
- Oversees the maintenance and care of site facilities.
- Approves and promotes site programming/events.
- Performs regularly scheduled overall park and playground inspections.
- Manages park facility expenditures.
- Coordinates major park maintenance or construction projects with Resource Development staff.
- Works directly with local law enforcement to control violence and vandalism.
- Works with appropriate personnel in other sections and departments and outside contractors regarding major maintenance and development of buildings, water systems, roadways or other facilities.
- Works with neighborhood and community groups on matters of civic, park, and recreational interest.
- Prepares plans, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for projects, programs, and equipment.
- Serves as a liaison for the site with outside agencies in matters pertaining to the worksite.
- Prepares and administers site budget.
- Accountable for the collection and deposit of all revenue generated at the site through day use and overnight fees.
- Prepares weekly fiscal, revenue, and visitation reports.
- Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
- Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments, work techniques, and documentation of that performance with the use of the Departmental CPM
- Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
Position-Specific Details:
Location: Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer, LA
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty
Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
Travel: Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
