Philanthropy - Social Media & Marketing Intern

Position Summary: 

The Social Media & Marketing Intern will support the Philanthropy – Communications & Marketing program by participating in educational experiences related to nonprofit communications, digital marketing, and public relations. Under supervision, the intern will assist with tasks that align to their academic goals while gaining professional skills in a collaborative environment. 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Gain hands-on experience in managing nonprofit social media platforms and digital marketing campaigns. 
  2. Develop skills in graphic design, short-form copywriting, and social media engagement strategies. 
  3. Understand nonprofit brand management and public relations processes. 
  4. Collaborate with marketing professionals and learn industry-standard tools and techniques. 

Intern Responsibilities:   

Interns may engage in the following supervised learning activities: 

  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials to support A New Leaf’s programs while learning to apply brand standards and consistency under supervision. 
  • Support online reputation management by observing and participating in supervised engagement activities, such as drafting responses to comments, posts, and messages for review before posting. 
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a social media content calendar and assist with implementing social media strategies as directed by the supervisor. 
  • Learn public relations processes by assisting in the drafting and distribution of press releases under staff guidance. 
  • Collaborate with staff and contracted marketing partners on assigned components of projects and campaigns as part of a learning experience. 
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities related to fundraising and philanthropy marketing to gain a broader understanding of nonprofit communications. 
  • Follow all organizational policies, including the Code of Conduct and professional standards, while in a learning environment. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable regulations and mandated reporting requirements, with guidance from supervisors. 

Eligibility & Requirements 

Depending on program placement, additional clearances or qualifications may be required. 

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university academic program in a field related to the internship position, and seeking academic credit for the internship. 
  • Possession of a valid Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card (must be obtained prior to internship start). 
  • Able to pass a DES or DCS Central Registry background check (must be completed prior to internship start). 
  • Time commitment of 10–20 hours per week, depending on program and academic requirements. 
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and follow supervisor instructions 
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, including the Code of Conduct, professional standards, and applicable regulations. 
  • Comply with mandated reporting requirements under Arizona statute A.R.S. § 13-3620 by reporting any suspected abuse or neglect of a minor to the appropriate authorities. 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 

  • Work may be conducted on-site, hybrid, or remote, depending on program needs and intern placement, with arrangements approved in advance by the assigned supervisor and Human Resources. 
  • Interns are not permitted to drive on behalf of the organization without prior written clearance from Human Resources. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or at a desk. 
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. for materials or program supplies may be required. 
  • Exposure to standard office or shelter equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic, client-focused environment. 
  • Must maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

  • Drug Screening 
  • Valid Unrestricted Driver’s License 
  • Motor Vehicle Driving Record 
  • Current Auto Liability Insurance 

Training and Orientation:  

  • NIO (New Intern Orientation)
