This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

As the Physician, working under general supervision, you will perform a wide range of medical services including examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric patients in a short-term, acute care facility.

Responsibilities for the Physician:

• Provide medical care to patients, to include care for both acute/urgent/emergent and ongoing/chronic medical problems. Perform medical consultations as requested. Provide a clinical consultation to primary care nurse practitioners and/or physicians' assistants. Perform all required documentation for clinical encounter: and other matters, according to regulatory and policy standards. As necessary, refer patients for outside specialty consultation.
• Provide oversight for all primary care/medical processes. Identify areas for advancement and improvement in medical re for HPH patients and works with Director of Professional Services and/or facility medical director and facility leadership in implementation. Assist Director of Professional Services and/or facility medical director in assessing quality of care. Serve on assigned committees.
• Provide administrative and clinical supervision to primary care nurse-practitioners or physicians' assistants.
• Consult with other medical staff members and pharmacists in discussion of medication issues and other medical issues that affect psychiatric and other medical concerns. Attend and participate in medical staff meetings, transition of care meetings, and other assigned committee meetings. Participate in peer review and continuous quality management programs and initiatives,
• Establish and maintain ongoing physician privileges at tertiary hospitals, in order to maximize consultation with tertiary providers, access medical records of facuilty patients treated in the tertiary system. Coordinate clinical aspects of transition of facility patients hospitalized at teriary hospital back to facility. Attend teleneurogoly and/or telemedicine consultations with BHDD-OMH neurologist on facility patients.
• Assist in screening of patients referred to facility when necessary to ascertain medical appropriateness for admission.
• Maintain clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, including MANDT, MAPS, CPR, Corporate Compliance, and online training.
  
  

Position Duties

• Graduation from an approved school of medicine and completion of internship or one (1) year residency training.
• Three (3) years of experience in medical services programs. 

Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to work closely and cooperatively with a wide range of patients and professionals.
• Ability to write thorough and comprehensive medical records documenting findings and services performed.
• A Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an approved School of Medicine.
• Completion of internships or one (1) year of residency.
• Must be licensed by the South Carolina Board of Medicine Examiners. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

• Have the ability and dedication to work with severely and persistently mentally ill population.
• Be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors including, but not limited to combative, threatening, acting out and upredictable violence.
• Understand that one may be exposed to blood. 
• Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and may be required to lift more during times of emergencies.
