A role within Planning and Inventory Management (PIM) means bringing a well-informed, strategic perspective to how we plan, buy, position, and manage inventory across the enterprise. This work is foundational to delivering strong sales, profit, inventory accuracy, and guest reliability outcomes across the Planning and Inventory Management pyramid. Success in this space requires driving cross-company coordination, building strong partnerships across roundtable teams, and collaborating closely with functions beyond Merchandising, including Store Operations, Supply Chain, Technology, Finance, Assets Protection, and Properties. Teams in this function balance long-term strategy with real-time operational execution to ensure inventory accuracy and visibility are optimized to meet both financial goals and the evolving needs of our stores and guests.

The Planning & Inventory Operations Lead (Performance Enablement) is responsible for ensuring Planning & Inventory execution teams have the information, guidance, tools, and support needed to perform effectively and consistently.

This role serves as the connection point between operational strategy, process ownership, technology, analytics, and execution teams. The position leads the development of scalable enablement capabilities that improve execution quality, accelerate adoption of change, and drive operational performance.

Success in this role requires building systems that help teams know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it successfully through effective communication, knowledge management, performance insights, learning, and continuous improvement.

About you:

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in retail planning, inventory management, merchandise operations, performance enablement, process management, or a related field.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience translating complex business requirements into scalable operational solutions.
  • Experience developing communication strategies, operating rhythms, enablement programs, or knowledge management practices.
  • Experience supporting organizational change, process improvement, or business transformation efforts.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of planning calendars, inventory workflows, and retail operational processes.
  • Experience with workflow automation, AI-enabled support tools, digital enablement platforms, or knowledge management systems.
  • Experience with onboarding, capability development, performance management, and operational analytics.

Travel Requirement: 0-10%

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Communications & Execution Support

  • Own the weekly operating communication cadence for Planning & Inventory execution teams.
  • Consolidate and prioritize inputs from Planning, Inventory, and cross-functional partners into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Establish communication standards, governance, and operating rhythms aligned to business priorities and operational calendars.
  • Ensure communications are timely, relevant, and sequenced to support critical business activities.

Performance Enablement & Knowledge Management

  • Lead the evolution of performance enablement capabilities, moving from traditional documentation and training toward scalable, in-workflow support systems.
  • Develop and maintain frameworks that provide role-based guidance, decision support, and self-service access to operational knowledge.
  • Own governance and continuous improvement of SOPs, process documentation, policies, and best practices.
  • Partner with process and technology teams to identify opportunities for automation, workflow guidance, and AI-enabled support solutions.

Performance Insights & Operational Readiness

  • Partner with business leaders and analytics teams to identify key operational performance indicators and execution risks.
  • Translate performance data into actionable insights that improve operational outcomes.
  • Develop mechanisms to monitor adoption, identify performance gaps, and proactively address operational challenges.
  • Support readiness planning and adoption of new processes, tools, and business initiatives.

Learning, Capability Building & Continuous Improvement

  • Design scalable approaches to onboarding, role readiness, and ongoing capability development.
  • Promote learning experiences that reinforce operational excellence within the flow of work.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to identify friction points, improve user adoption, and strengthen enablement effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement through performance outcomes, user feedback, and evolving business needs.

Governance & Prioritization

  • Manage intake and prioritization of communication, guidance, and enablement requests across Planning & Inventory Operations.
  • Evaluate initiatives based on business value, execution impact, and organizational priorities.
  • Balance short-term operational support needs with long-term enablement and transformation objectives.
  • Establish governance processes that ensure consistency, quality, and sustainability of enablement solutions.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
