Plant Tissue Culture Worker

Department Overview:

Our department works to address humanity’s grand challenges related to agriculture through programs of research, education, and outreach that range from investigations of the inner workings of plants to their interactions with landscapes and climate.

Minimum: $17.00/hr Maximum: $18.00/hr

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled undergraduate student (any major, but Biology, Botany, Agriculture, or Biotechnology preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Attention to details and willingness to follow protocols precisely
• No prior experience required- training will be provided

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Glassware washing, sterilization, and organization, maintaining a clean, contamination-free lab environment
• Media preparation- weighing, mixing, and sterilizing plant tissue culture media under supervision
• Subculturing assistance- transferring plantlets to fresh media alongside the researcher, with progressive training to perform subculturing independently

Physical Demands:

- Fine Motor Skills: Frequent repetitive hand, wrist, and finger motions for precise pipetting, dissection, capping/uncapping bottles, and handling delicate glassware.
- Stationary Position: Ability to remain seated at a sterile laminar flow hood.
- Lifting & pouring aseptically: Safely lifting, moving, and pouring the autoclaved media aseptically from ~1L flask (500ml media) to test tubes or bottles in the laminar flow hood.
