What You'll Do
The Non-Licensed Plumber performs advanced-level plumbing and mechanical work as assigned by Plant Engineering Services leadership to help maintain the safety, functionality, and service life of hospital facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Repairing and maintaining commercial plumbing systems and equipment
- Installing and servicing medical gas systems including oxygen, vacuum, nitrogen, compressed air, and nitrous oxide
- Troubleshooting plumbing and mechanical issues using testing equipment and diagnostic tools
- Reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics
- Evaluating plumbing systems for performance and efficiency improvements
- Installing and repairing kitchen equipment and related systems
- Following life safety, plumbing, and building codes
- Assisting with emergency response, evacuation procedures, and firefighting support when needed
- Working safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding environments
What We're Looking For
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One year of vocational or technical school preferred
Experience
- Minimum two years of commercial plumbing installation and maintenance experience required
- Healthcare facility experience preferred
License
- NC Drivers License required
Skills (Required)
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, building codes, and life safety standards
- Experience with medical gas systems and commercial plumbing repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot plumbing and mechanical equipment issues
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment installation and repair
- Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic systems preferred
- Comfortable using computers and standard PC programs
- Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and working in confined spaces
- Ability to work extended shifts and respond to emergency situations as needed
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment
