What You'll Do

The Non-Licensed Plumber performs advanced-level plumbing and mechanical work as assigned by Plant Engineering Services leadership to help maintain the safety, functionality, and service life of hospital facilities and equipment.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Repairing and maintaining commercial plumbing systems and equipment
  • Installing and servicing medical gas systems including oxygen, vacuum, nitrogen, compressed air, and nitrous oxide
  • Troubleshooting plumbing and mechanical issues using testing equipment and diagnostic tools
  • Reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics
  • Evaluating plumbing systems for performance and efficiency improvements
  • Installing and repairing kitchen equipment and related systems
  • Following life safety, plumbing, and building codes
  • Assisting with emergency response, evacuation procedures, and firefighting support when needed
  • Working safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding environments

What We're Looking For

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • One year of vocational or technical school preferred

Experience

  • Minimum two years of commercial plumbing installation and maintenance experience required
  • Healthcare facility experience preferred

License

  • NC Drivers License required 

Skills (Required) 

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, building codes, and life safety standards
  • Experience with medical gas systems and commercial plumbing repairs
  • Ability to troubleshoot plumbing and mechanical equipment issues
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment installation and repair
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic systems preferred
  • Comfortable using computers and standard PC programs
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and working in confined spaces
  • Ability to work extended shifts and respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment
