    Salary: Per KEA Salary Schedule

    We are excited to announce that the Kelso School District anticipates hiring exceptional team members to expand our elementary team.  Kelso School District classroom teachers are instructional designers.  They design and create lessons for the various phases of learning throughout the elementary grade program and sustain a high-energy, positive classroom environment favorable to academic achievement and personal growth.  Our teachers establish positive rapport with students and their families and strive to motivate students to develop their skills, attitudes, and knowledge to foster the necessary foundation for lifelong learning.
      



    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Professional Preparation:

    Has a theoretical background and knowledge of the principles and methods of teaching and commitment to education as a profession
    Demonstrates a knowledge of theory and content with depth & breadth appropriate to the elementary level
    Demonstrates an awareness of personal limitations and strengths, and demonstrates continued professional growth
    Conducts self in a professional manner           


    Instruction of Students:

    Enthusiasm for, and enjoyment in, working with students
    Designs, conducts and assesses an instructional experience
    Demonstrates understanding and is committed to each student's learning, taking into account each individual student's unique background and experiences
    Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology
    Lessons are differentiated and foster high levels of student engagement
    Reports student progress to parents regularly
    Maintains student records, including attendance, cumulative records, and classroom inventory
    Undertakes with the timely submission of IEPs, progress reports, etc.  


    Classroom Environment:

    Organizes and maintains the physical and human elements in the educational setting
    Maintains order in the educational setting
    Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior
    Monitors conditions to ensure the health and safety of students
    Enforces the rules and regulations of the school district
    Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population
    Requires the use of multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail, computers, document readers, and smart boards  


    Team Building:

    Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of students
    Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to meet Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR's) in all curriculum areas  
    Educates special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with other staff
    Participates in child guidance discussions to provide appropriate programs for the developmental level of each student
    Participates in team and individual instructional planning, including writing daily lesson plans  


    School Participation:

    Collaborates to create, implement and assess the school improvement cycle or process
    Performs assigned out-of-classroom supervision and other duties
    Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and grade level/department meetings
    Participates in total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities
    Works cooperatively with all building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality
    Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
    Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities  


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate for elementary grades.
     
    Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment
     
    Must have regular, consistent attendance
     
    Must be willing to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
     
    Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the designated grade level preferred, and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics skills
     
    Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum integration and a commitment to improve and refine instructional and management skills by participating in professional development
     
    Demonstrated knowledge of technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs.
     
    Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals
     
    Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, and adults (staff & parents)
     
    Demonstrated awareness, appreciation and respect of diversity among students and adults
     
    Sets appropriate expectations for individual students
     
    Experience working with at-risk student population preferred
     
    Experience working with economically diverse or challenged populations preferred

    Perform all other duties as assigned

    Per agreement between Kelso School District and the Kelso Education Association
