In the role of Principal Community Relations Officer, we will count on you to:

  • Provide high-level liaison work between external stakeholders, such as elected officials, businesses, and community and special interest groups regarding the project
  • Plan and implement, or attend publicity efforts, strategies, and outreach programs to define community needs, obtain their input, gain their support, and promote the Projects 
  • Meet and confer with LACMTA staff, external stakeholders, and project contractors to resolve conflicting or divergent opinions and to reach mutually acceptable solutions 
  • Research incidents, complaints, and concerns, including difficult and sensitive problems, and interfaces with contractors and management to resolve issues 
  • Recommend strategies to promote LACMTA′s strategic goals and objectives 
  • Prepare and make presentations to management, public officials, community groups, schools and other stakeholders 
  • Provide support to project management and the department, and interdepartment management in Board presentations, community outreach, and in coordinating construction activities and mitigations 
  • Provide input in creating useful communication tools and methods 
  • Develop content for collateral material to educate the public on construction activities 
  • Keep the community and elected officials informed of construction impacts related to construction projects 
  • Remain up to date on current and proposed activities and programs, and applicable regulations by attending Board, project, and community meetings.  
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, newsletter, and talking materials, as requested, by management or public officials 
  • Plan and conduct safety education outreach before and during construction projects 
  • Coordinate and conduct tours of the Project

     

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Community Relations dealing with the interface of construction activities, government agencies, businesses and the general public 
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, political science or other related field is desirable 
  • Proficiency in a 2nd language such as Spanish is preferred
     

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a communications field of expertise: social media, event planning, community engagement, target marketing, descriptive writing, public involvement, etc
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independent with multiple teams as well as team oriented
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills - positive outlook and attitude
  • High aptitude for managing and solving tactical issues
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must 
  • Comfortable and competent while working with senior leaders and managing cross-functional efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
