This position is responsible for supervising and investigating adult criminal offenders who have been determined to need specialized intensive supervision or require special investigative efforts and are on or seeking release to probation, parole, work releases, a community residential center or grant of pardon.  Public safety is the utmost concern in the execution of all duties.

Position Duties

Four years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following:

1. Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement
2. Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply)
3. Six years of full-time experience in any field
4. A bachelor's degree

OR

Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties:

  • Recruits, develops, and coordinates community resources to include job training, potential employers, shelter, clothing, food, mental health and substance abuse programs; performs needs assessments; responds to specific requests from Probation and Parole Officers for emergency services or resources to meet ongoing offender needs.  Evaluates the needs of resources within the local district and the Division of Probation and Parole and makes recommendations to the District Administrator and Assistant Director.
  • Plans for the utilization of resources within the local district to include direct liaison with private organizations, local faith-based groups, potential employers, and governmental agencies.  Assists Probation and Parole Officers with utilizing these organizations and explores alternative resources available within the community.
  • Conducts training and presentations for the Probation and Parole staff on new resources or changes in existing resources; maintains resources information and activities; and serves as the district’s Community Resource Coordinator within the local district. 
  • Develops and implements a recruitment plan to solicit volunteers and expand available community resources through public relations activities, to include conducting presentations to departmental staff, community groups, offenders, and local citizens.  Maintains and implements effective interagency programs, manages and monitors community support and conducts re-evaluations of the effectiveness of community programs.
  • Serves as a liaison to local agencies, professional boards, task forces groups, churches and non-profit organizations.  Collaborates with other agencies to develop and coordinate resources in order to establish effective working relationships; receives and makes appropriate referrals.  Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of service delivery of department provided resources and maintains a database of resource providers and services.

  • Employee will work with Probation & Parole Officers, Probation & Parole Specialists, Probation & Parole Supervisors, Probation & Parole District Managers, and Probation & Parole Regional Administrators


Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC) 

  • The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $33.78 per hour.

Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
