About this role

Your Role

The Product Strategy Insights Analytics team supports the Product Strategy and marketing team with analytical and financial modeling for product development activities for Blue Shield of California. The Product Insights Analyst, Consultant will report to the Senior Manager, Product Strategy Insights Analytics. The team provides valuable insights to strategists to devise strategies and supports work to make healthcare affordable through data analysis, cost of healthcare modeling and forecasting in a healthcare environment. The role includes developing insights into healthcare costs, trends, utilization and risks to support strategic decision making. In this role, you will translate stakeholder business problems into end-to-end analytic solutions—gathering requirements, wireframing models or dashboards, and building statistical models. You’ll lead complex analytics to uncover performance drivers, identify trends, and forecast outcomes.

Responsibilities

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Understand stakeholder business problems, develop requirements for an analytic solution, wireframe the solution which may be a model, analysis or self-serve dashboards.
  • Help lead the development of complex analytics products with minimal guidance, to support product strategy related work, such as product performance evaluations, network performance monitoring, cost savings modeling for Blue Shield of California
  • Perform advanced statistical and machine learning analyses to inform performance opportunities
  • Collect and evaluate data, develop and maintain financial models, analyze results and conduct scenario analyses to estimate the cost of healthcare savings and to support cost /benefit analyses to understand the relative benefits of alternative courses of action
  • Reconcile data results from different sources and combine them into integrated reports spanning cost, quality, utilization, and risk profile metrics
  • Partner with key business partners in BSC and other Health Plans to communicate actionable insights from Experience Analytics including performance drivers, changes in trend, forecasted performance, etc.
  • Participate in internal workgroups and stakeholder meetings to provide analytical insight and support for the implementation and enhancement of new programs, products, and services
  • Collaborate with key operational leaders to establish credible assumptions to support modeling of proposed initiatives to mitigate cost of healthcare trend while maintaining/improving the quality of care
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities to improve healthcare quality, reduce costs and enhance member outcomes
  • Present complex insights into executive leadership and key stakeholders in a clear, actionable manner
  • Develop predictive models to guide the product development and enhancement
  • Bring passion for solving complex healthcare challenges that improve member experience

Qualifications

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in data science, data analytics, health informatics, statistics, engineering or related quantitative fields; Master’s degree preferred
  • Requires at least 7 years of prior relevant experience in data analysis with at least 2 years of experience in Health Care (provider, managed care, academic, or gov't payer)
  • Requires advanced knowledge of healthcare data and managed health plan operations
  • Strong analytic and independent problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis tools
  • Understanding of statistical methods and advanced modeling techniques
  • Proficient in experimentation design and A/B testing
  • Requires proficiency in following technical skills
    • High proficiency in scalable data transformation techniques, using SQL, Programming – Netezza, Oracle, Python, SAS
    • Advanced hands-on knowledge of Tableau for creating actionable self-serve dashboards
    • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, including hypothesis testing, margin of error, and confidence intervals
  • Proficiency in the following technical skills are strongly preferred
    • Proficiency in applied statistics, data mining, or other quantitative disciplines using Python / R Programming
    • Expertise in advanced analytics and machine learning, including building models and conducting analyses to uncover trends, generate actionable insights, and support data-driven decision-making
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex information to executive leadership and other stakeholders
  • Ability to partner, collaborate with, and lead relevant stakeholders across diverse functions and experience levels

This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.

Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.
