About this role
We are looking for a Product Owner in our Global Network Communications team to represent the interest of the customer through the delivery of business value. Help define and drive the Network Delivery team's deployment of network infrastructure for Liberty Mutual offices. Our team deploys network services, infrastructure as code and software Globally, with monitoring, modeling and intelligence to improve visibility, reliability and resiliency. Our Product Owner will direct the team to define our products and services, advocate new product vision, gather, and prioritize product requirements, and set the roadmap for network evolution. Works closely with GNC Leadership, Business, Development teams, Partners, and Infrastructure agile teams to deliver products that achieve business or technology objectives and improve customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
- Product Vision & Strategy: Accountable for collaboratively creating and articulating product vision with the management team, architects and engineers, translating it into features and tactics, and aligning with strategic priorities. Communicates product strategy to the squad/team, other teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership. Contributes to the development of the portfolio vision and program/portfolio level planning.
- Product Roadmap & Backlog Management: Builds and maintains the product roadmap and strategy based on ongoing stakeholder input. Manages and maintains the product backlog, including creation, prioritization, and refinement. Accountable for clear and actionable user stories, including defining MVP for products/features in scope.
- KPIs & Product Health: Accountable for developing and achieving product-level KPIs. Monitors and maintains product health, designing additional monitoring as needed, and proactively assessing the impact of the product on others in the ecosystem.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Communicates feature or product strategy effectively to key stakeholders and team members. Incorporates stakeholder input into the product roadmap while negotiating tradeoffs of conflicting priorities based on value to the business and customer. Establishes and sets expectations with stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
- Planning & Prioritization: Sets priorities and actively participates in squad/team and portfolio quarterly planning. Negotiates with internal and external teams to set aligned priorities both within and outside the portfolio. Determines expected value to be delivered in each iteration based on squad/team-determined capacity.
- Agile & Daily Execution: Works daily with the agile working group and scrum teams to clarify business requirements, remove roadblocks, and support alignment around product strategy. Participates in squad/team demos, retrospectives, and all other ceremonies. Approves final stories and completed user features.
- Cross-Functional Alignment & Delivery: Partners with Engineering Managers, Directors, and delivery teams to align resources, development, and business goals. Coordinates delivery plans, testing, training, and support across functions. Acts as the "voice of the customer."
- Regulatory & Compliance Awareness: Drives alignment with stakeholders to understand the impact of regulatory, compliance, and other industry constraints on the product and other products within the portfolio.
- Education & Experience: Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management, as typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (business, computer science, humanities, etc.) and a minimum of 7 years of experience in business, engineering, technology, and/or consulting, with 5-7 years of direct experience with agile teams. Master's degree preferred.
- Agile Expertise: Proven experience with Agile practices, expectations, and methodologies applied in a hands-on team environment.
- Business Acumen: High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for the product and understand business value impacts. Knowledge of the insurance industry and relevant products and portfolio strongly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of cellular and WiFi services and capabilities, network design and engineering, including Software Defined Networking (SD-WAN/LAN).
- Communication & Presentation Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated experience leading and educating varied audiences through the development and depiction of complex ideas, issues, and designs, including business vision, plans, and the impact of change.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Influence: Develops strong stakeholder relationships and the ability to influence across multiple organizational boundaries and a diverse group of stakeholders. Ability to lead varied audiences through consensus building.
- Decision Making: Able to make difficult and quick decisions, including comfort with making decisions under some level of uncertainty.
- Problem Solving & Innovation: Strong problem solver with the ability to lead teams to push solutions forward and drive progress. Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amidst uncertainty and exploit market opportunities.
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
