Production Supervisor / Foreman

General Summary

This position is responsible for the safety and productivity of all production employees staffed on a designated shift, as well as shop security. The role is accountable for ensuring production schedules are completed on time and within quality standards, while participating in hiring and performance management processes.

Desired Knowledge, and/or Skills

• Written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of basic shop mathematics
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols
• Proficient in effective operation of welding equipment

Duties

• Lead and control skilled labor and work crews engaged in erection and fabrication activities.
• Optimize manpower, equipment, and materials for efficient project completion.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills and implement process improvements where needed.
• Read, interpret, and follow procedures and method statements.
• Review blueprints, specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Maintain strong working relationships with workforce, departments, and client management.
• Provide clear and effective direction to work crews.
• Supervise crews assembling girders, columns, and structural steel members.
• Ensure crews are supplied with necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
• Maximize workforce utilization while enforcing discipline and safe work practices.
• Enforce all QA/QC and safety procedures and regulations.

Safety Requirements

• Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain orderly and clean work areas.
• Attend all required safety meetings.
• Inspect equipment daily to ensure safety compliance.
• Inspect tools daily before use, including extension cords.
• Use hand and power tools safely with proper guards in place.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Required PPE:
• Fire/flame resistant clothing
• Heavy flame resistant gloves
• Respirators when welding harmful metals or ventilation is inadequate
• Steel/hard toe boots
• Hearing protection

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment, or materials up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching
• Ability to frequently handle tools, equipment, or materials
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions including cold, heat, and humidity
