About this role
Summary:
The School Psychology Intern carries out major professional functions of a school psychologist in a sequence of experiences designed to build their professional and technical skills. The various domains in which a School Psychology Intern will develop skills include: consultation, prevention and intervention, mental health services, data-based decision making, evaluation, and interpretation of psychological and educational data. Field-based supervision will be provided by a certified school psychologist employed by HCPS, in collaboration with a HCPS Psychological Services administrator and a university School Psychology program supervisor. A minimum of 1200 hours is required to complete this field experience.

Responsibilities:
· Applies knowledge and skills learned in an accredited school psychology, graduate-level university program to the school setting.
· Participates actively in problem-solving teams to assist in defining student difficulties, developing interventions, and monitoring response to interventions.
· Consults with parents, students, school staff, and other professionals regarding student, class, school or district issues.
· Conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations of referred student in accordance with departmental standards and in compliance with State Department of Education statutes and Federal regulations.
· Interprets educational data and psychological finding to parents, school personnel, and other professionals during individual conferences and team meetings.
· Possess knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional issues related to the practice of clinical psychology.
· Develops proficiency in the administrations, scoring, and interpretation of various psychological assessment instruments.
· Completes comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations and produce written reports that will be utilized for educational planning.
· Maintains accurate records regarding service provided.
· Participates in school-based, problem-solving teams to address student needs.
· Collaborates with school-based teams to complete behavioral assessments and develop positive behavior intervention plans, which include progress monitoring.
· Participates in professional development activities to enhance practice.
· Participates in mental health activities to support students, with direct supervision provided by a certified school psychologist.
· Performs any other duties as assigned.

Language Skills: Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence, and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.
Mathematical Skills: Applies advanced math concepts and math operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, correlation techniques, and sampling theory.
Reasoning Ability: Applies principles of logical thinking to wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deals with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, equations, etc.) and abstract and concrete variables in the most difficult phases.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking and hearing.
Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds
Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity 3 moderate.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Position requires direct supervision by a certified school psychologist who is also employed by HCPS. A minimum of two hours per week of face-to-face contact with the field-based supervisor is required. Position is paid for 40 hours per week with no benefits, no paid holidays, and no
paid vacation provided.
