A cashier at Giant is the face of the store, responsible for creating a welcoming environment while handling customer transactions. Core duties include scanning purchases, processing payments, bagging groceries, and maintaining a clean checkout area. They assist customers with inquiries and resolve minor complaints. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Greet shoppers, answer store-related questions, and resolve minor customer concerns.
  • Checkout Operations: Scan products using optical scanners, tabulate bills, and bag groceries efficiently.
  • Payment Processing: Receive cash, check, or credit card payments, make exact change, and issue receipts.
  • Cash Drawer Management: Count funds at the beginning and end of shifts to balance the register.
  • Store Upkeep: Keep the checkout area clean, set up displays, and occasionally restock shelves or return items to their proper locations.  
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended periods (approximately 55% of the shift) and walk the rest.
  • Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Tally, move, and bag goods repetitively. 
Qualifications
  • Basic math skills and the ability to operate or quickly learn a Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
  • Strong verbal communication and a friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • High attention to detail for handling money and maintaining regular, reliable attendance.
