Minimum Qualifications: 

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

AND

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university;

AND

Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Standards: Knowledge of standards that either are compliant with or derived from established standards or guidelines.
  • Managing Human Resources: Plans, distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments of others; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Developing Others: Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
  • Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions and demonstrates commitment to accomplish work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Advanced post-secondary education in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field that includes master’s level study in nursing and/or public health;

AND/OR

Progressively responsible professional nursing experience in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or a teaching capacity that is relevant to providing either public health services in a public health organization (e.g., tribal, city, county, or state) or population health services in a hospital or primary care setting.


Special Notes:

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

Minimum Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following: 

  1. Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone, one (1) of whom must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application. 
  2. A copy of current nursing license (from any state).
  3. A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to support that you meet the minimum qualification competencies.

If chosen for the position, the candidate will be required to provide the following items before employment:
  1. Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella immunizations. 
  2. Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or a signed declination statement).
  3. Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.   
  4. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months. 
  5. A copy of your current driver’s license.
