About this role
About the Department
As the SCDNR ADPI, the incumbent will:
- Based on agency needs and staff requests, create clear and error-free content for print, web and social media that reflects SCDNR's voice.
- Serve as back-up to the Director of Public Information for all crisis and incident communications, prepare evergreen and partnership news releases and media advisories, and represent SCDNR in the SCOE for disaster activation.
- Serve as public information representative in the State Emergency Operations Center during natural disasters.
- Provide in-depth review and editing of all publications, proofread SCW as requested, and proofread GovDelivery mass emails.
- Represent DNR at a variety of DNR sponsored events, community events, as well as serve on various task forces.
- Complete requested photo assignments to cover events, and capture imagery for upcoming stories of social media posts.
- Serve as back-up to the social media coordinator, including content creation and marketing.
Position Duties
A bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, creative writing, journalism or similar field with strong work experience, and three (3) or more years preferred in error-free content creation. A proven understanding of journalistic principles with the ability to gather, organize and distribute accurate information in a timely manner. Excellent command of the rules of syntax, punctuation and grammar, including a strong working knowledge of the AP Style Guide. Ability to break down and present complex material in plain language. Familiarity with SEO copywriting best practices. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Creative Cloud and various social media platforms. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under strict deadlines. Talented public speaker and photographer.
