About this role
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Python Software Engineer to develop and maintain software applications supporting cardiac medical devices. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python 3.11, PyQt5, desktop application development, and a good understanding of cardiac systems and medical device software development. The role involves designing user interfaces, integrating with medical hardware, developing automation tools, and supporting verification and validation activities in compliance with medical device regulations.
This role is aligned with the technical expectations commonly seen in Medtronic software engineering opportunities supporting medical device platforms, cardiac therapies, software infrastructure, and regulated product development.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain desktop applications using Python 3.11 and PyQt5.

Develop software solutions supporting cardiac medical device systems, diagnostic tools, and engineering workflows.

Build intuitive graphical user interfaces (GUI) for clinical, engineering, and manufacturing applications.

Integrate software applications with medical devices, simulators, and external hardware.

Develop reusable software modules following object-oriented design principles.

Participate in software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.

Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Firmware, Hardware, Clinical, Quality, and Regulatory teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Perform unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and software verification activities.

Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Develop technical documentation, software design specifications, and test documentation.

Ensure software complies with applicable medical device standards and quality processes.

Support software release, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Good understanding of Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) or cardiovascular medical devices.

Exposure to ECG, electrograms (EGM), cardiac monitoring, pacing, defibrillation, or electrophysiology concepts is preferred.

Experience working with regulated medical device software.

Knowledge of software lifecycle processes for medical devices.

Understanding of system verification, validation, and traceability in regulated environments.

Ability to collaborate with clinical and systems engineering teams to develop safe and reliable medical software.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

5–9 years of experience in Python application development.

Experience in desktop application development using PyQt5.

Experience in the medical device or healthcare domain, preferably cardiac devices.

Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have

Experience with medical device communication protocols.

Knowledge of DICOM or HL7.

Experience with Docker and Linux environments.

Familiarity with SQLite or PostgreSQL.
