Duties

As a Range Operations Technician, you will perform the following duties which is not all inclusive list:,Serve as a Range Operations Technician responsible for scheduling and coordinating the use of the installation training ranges and facilities utilizing Range Facility Management Support System RFMSS.,Assist in developing and enforcing regulatory requirements involving range inspections procedures and range communications procedures.,Discuss with range safety officers the planning and setup of training exercises as they influence the daily schedule so that all operations can be conducted within acceptable hazard and damage limits.,Evaluate the seriousness of problems encountered in range safety matters and keeps the leadership informed of major problems and unusual work situations.

Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes filing and retrieving documents in a range operations office, assisting in preparing various maps, plans, guides analyses, and special reports for military use; receiving and processing requests for training resources and training land in support of military range operations and emergency incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which serving as a scheduler/fire desk operator, receiving, filling, and approving/disapproving requests for range and training land utilization; arranging for ground and air transportation of personnel in support of emergency and range activities; collecting, processing and disseminating weather and range operations information into computer programs or databases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Specialized Experience for GS-08: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Planning, scheduling, coordinating, approving, or disapproving unit requests for range and training area usage to determine personnel requirements, weapons systems, ammunition, arrival and departure times, and other data related to military training exercises utilizing a range automated system such as the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS); 2) Performing range safety operations functions to include conducting on-site inspections of ranges and training areas, assisting with safety briefings for military and civilian agencies, enforcing compliance with range safety regulations and SOPs, and investigating range accidents/incidents; 3) Monitoring and coordinating the issuance, opening, check-fire, cease-fire, and closing of live-fire ranges, training facilities, and training areas through operation and communication across multiple radio nets; and 4) Operating range automation systems and automated targetry (TRACR), while managing daily range control operations and ensuring services, facilities, and training activities conform to operational, safety, environmental, and quality requirements in support of mission readiness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement for GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-08: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Other Information

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 2 Years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
