Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.
Anticipated Hours Per Week
12-16 hours a weekSchedule:
Anticipated Schedule
- Summer Semester 2026. Availability to work weekends and at least 1 closing shift is required on one weekday & weekend.
Minimum Hour Expectation
- 12 hours per week
- 2 - 3 shifts
- All shifts are between 4 - 6 hours
Unit Hours
All units are open 10:00am - 11:00pm.
Shifts are:
- 11:00AM-3:00PM
- 12:00PM-4:00PM
- 3:00PM-7:00PM
- 4:00PM-8:00PM
- 5:00PM-9:00PM
- 3:00PM-9:00PM
- 7:00PM-11:00PM
Unit Location
Rathskeller Units include the Rathskeller, Stiftskeller, Brat Stand and Carte. All units are located in Memorial Union.
Salary/Wage Range:
Hourly $15.00 to $15.00Number Of Positions
10Position Summary/Job Duties:
- Each role will have an aspect of cashiering and general customer service
- Handling, cooking and preparing food, including meat*
- Assisting with food and beverage service, including serving alcohol*
- Maintaining a clean work environment

Qualifications:
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability to work in a team
- Prior food experience helpful, not required
- Requires standing for long periods of time
- Must be enrolled as a student
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
