This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center (CEMHC), 151 Dillon Rd, Hilton Head, SC.
As the Registered Nurse, under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, you will provide advanced outpatient psychiatric nursing and case management services to clinic patients served by the Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center, with particular focus on promoting recovery-based services to persons with serious and persistent mental illnesses.
Responsibilities for the Registered Nurse include:
- Assume responsibility for patients with complex psychiatric/medical care needs. Provide advanced psychiatric nursing services, including medication monitoring and compliance, medication administration, and evaluate the effectiveness of medication to seriously and persistently mentally ill individuals. Coordinate and maintain a caseload. Complete clinical documentation in full compliance with BHDD OMH Quality Assurance Standards.
- Provide case management services, including treatment planning, medication education to patients and families, assess the nursing needs of patients, and provide psycho-education, crisis intervention, and medical stabilization in the community mental health setting. Perform all nursing and other treatment services in compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
- Manage the medication area of the clinic, including logging medicine in and out, maintain accurate inventory and storage of medications on hand, proper handling and routing of Hazardous Wastes, and provide ordering support to patients accessing medication assistance programs and other medication procurement methods, including pharmacy calls and confirming doctors' orders.
- Function as a member of the treatment team, attending staffings and other meetings, provide coordination and consultation to case managers and MDs, attend departmental meetings and training services as requested by supervisor.
- Provide nursing services to clients of other clinics and CAF services as needed and requested by clinic and CAF personnel.
Position Duties
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing or three (3) year diploma or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the SC Board of Nursing.
- Be able to lift 3- 5 pounds
- Be able to sit for long periods of time
Minimum Qualifications
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Other Qualifications
Post hire, employees must:
- Be able to pass CPR, First -Aid and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
- Have working knowledge of techniques and practices of the nursing profession, psychiatric theory and health care delivery.
- Have advanced knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology.
- Have the ability to monitor and administer medications.
