Summary:
Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
Reports to: Director or Manager of Emergency Department
Essential Functions:
- Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments and other medical care activities.
- Documents patient care provided
- Monitors, records and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient and family.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition and ambulation.
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care including transfers, discharges, referrals and psychosocial/spiritual support needs.
- Evaluates patient and family learning needs and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition and circumstances.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
- Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
- Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts or units as needed.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
How You’ll Contribute
A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:
- Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
- Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
- Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
- Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
- Performs timely and accurate QI assessments
Additional Information
- Patient populations served: Neonate, infant, early childhood, late childhood, adolescent, young adult, middle adult and older adult.
- Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete medical records
- Exposure: Occupations exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present for all employees
- Physical requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.

What we're looking for
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required)
- PALS and ACLS (required)
- One year of RN experience
