About this role

THE POSITION

The Department of State's, Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation is looking for a dedicated individual to help keep business professions working safely and responsibly. The Regulatory Enforcement Inspector supports this goal by checking businesses to make sure they follow the rules. You will have the opportunity to help protect the public by reviewing how businesses operate and making sure required standards are met.

The professional team of inspectors assigned to the Harrisburg Regional Office (HRO) will provide inspection services to the following counties: Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin, Adams, York, Lancaster, Berks Lebanon, Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Centre, Cambria, Blair, and Clearfield.


Inspectors are assigned specific areas to provide coverage; however, an inspector could be assigned an inspection anywhere within the Regional Office.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs inspections and investigative tasks to determine compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to professional and occupational licensing. The primary focus of the position is the physical inspection of barber shops, cosmetology salons, real estate offices, and vehicle dealerships. As a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Compliance Inspections: Conduct visits to licensed locations to check adherence to laws, rules, and required documentation
  • Evidence Collection: Gather records, samples, and other information to support investigative activities
  • Citation Issuance: Identify violations and issue citations in accordance with established procedures
  • Report Preparation: Write inspection and investigation reports that summarize findings and actions taken
  • Interview Support: Speak with individuals during inspections while keeping identities and information confidential
  • Legal Participation: Appear at hearings and provide testimony regarding inspection or investigative findings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or
  • An Associate's Degree and one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which included one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
