Renal Clinical Research Coordinator

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine’s Renal-Electrolyte Division is seeking a temporary Renal Clinical Research Coordinator to support multiple nephrology research studies, including a clinical trial involving patients receiving hemodialysis and a nephrology pharmacology research project.

Responsibilities will include participant recruitment, eligibility screening, and obtaining informed consent, including consent conducted by telephone. The Research Coordinator will recruit and schedule patients and healthcare providers for research interviews, with some patient recruitment conducted in person at clinical locations. The position will maintain recruitment tracking records and coordinate baseline assessments and follow-up study visits.

Additional responsibilities will include entering and maintaining study data in REDCap, processing Vincent study participant payments, preparing materials for study recruitment campaigns, participating in community outreach meetings, and assisting with the preparation of study reports. The Research Coordinator will ensure that study activities are completed in accordance with approved protocols, manuals of procedures, and established study workflows.

The position will maintain professional and collaborative relationships with community partners, including chronic kidney disease and dialysis clinic staff, healthcare providers, patients, and other study stakeholders. Most work will be completed remotely; however, occasional travel to local chronic kidney disease and dialysis clinics will be required approximately two to three times per month.

The successful candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time-management skills. The position requires the ability to communicate professionally with research participants, healthcare providers, clinic staff, community partners, and other study stakeholders.

Candidates must be able to manage responsibilities across multiple research studies, maintain accurate and confidential study records, follow detailed research protocols and established workflows, and prioritize tasks based on study needs and deadlines. Attention to detail, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.

Experience with participant recruitment, eligibility screening, informed consent, clinical research coordination, data collection, or research data entry is preferred. Experience using REDCap or a similar research data management system is also preferred. Candidates must be comfortable conducting telephone and in-person participant interactions, working primarily in a remote environment, maintaining a flexible work schedule based on study activities, and traveling to local chronic kidney disease and dialysis clinics approximately two to three times per month.
