Job Description:

NYC Parks is the steward of more than 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 660,000 street trees, and five million more in parks. We are New York City’s principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities and programs. We are home to free concerts, world-class sports events, and cultural festivals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

- Under general direction, supervise the maintenance, alteration, repair, erection and dismantling of structures and equipment pertinent to departmental operations.
- Oversee large jobs including the scoping of the job, the purchasing of materials and supplies, the scheduling of multiple trades, job-site supervision and all administrative tasks in the Asset Management Parks System (AMPS). Manage and oversee the work of skilled craftsmen, helpers and other assigned staff. Prepare work schedules and assignments.
- Maintain pool facilities and prioritize repairs.
- Monitor staff for disciplinary requirements and take appropriate action as needed.
- Supervise the preparation of lists of equipment required for individual jobs, based on information obtained from plans and specifications or field measurements.
- Estimate annual budget requirements. Prepare job orders and requisition materials.
- Inspect job sites and equipment to determine the need for repair, alteration and maintenance.
- Check jobs in progress and complete work assignments for compliance with work standards, job orders, codes and specifications.
- Maintain basic records and prepare reports.
- Supervise preventative maintenance and sustainability projects in Parks facilities.
- Open, assign, close and follow-up on the status of work orders in the Asset Management Parks System (AMPS).
- Approve trades timesheets using City-time.
- Communicate with Senior and Field Management to ensure that priorities are correctly established.

Duration: July 5, 2026 to January 5, 2027 (40 hours per week)

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $101.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to a $104.50 background check fee.

SUPERVISOR OF MECHANICS - 90774

Qualifications:

1. Seven years of recent, full-time, satisfactory experience in a pertinent craftsman title, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent.
