The Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Translation in Extracorporeal Therapies (BRITE) Lab at Nemours Children’s Hospital is a multidisciplinary team that combines clinical medicine and bioengineering to develop technologies to improve the outcomes for pediatric patients on extracorporeal life support (ECLS). We are developing next generation microfluidic oxygenators based on breakthrough semiconductor silicon membrane technology. In addition, we are developing new devices to both improve the safety of ECLS and accelerate vascular healing after ECLS decannulation. The Senior Research Technologist’s primary function is to provide laboratory technical assistance to support the goals and objectives of the lab. The ideal candidate will have an interest and background in bioengineering, biomaterials, mechanical engineering, microfluidics, or a related field. Additionally, ideal candidates will be interested in committing to several years of full-time work in the lab. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct scientific research under the supervision of Dr. David Blauvelt.

 

  1. Design, assembly, and testing of semiconductor silicon microfluidic oxygenators

 

  1. Assisting in animal experiments testing the device in an extracorporeal animal model

 

  1. Data analysis and production of oral and written reports, participation in team meetings at which the work will be discussed and planned.

 

  1. Assist with maintenance and operations in the laboratory in which studies occur.

 

  1. Assist in protocol development and grant applications for internal and external funding.

 

  1. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and for presentation at scientific meetings.

 

  1. Work well with others in the laboratory so as to assist others in their studies and learn from them about alternative approaches to ones own work.

 

  1. Assist with training and supervision of new staff and students

 

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required -  degree must be in a relevant scientific field such as biomedical engineering or mechanical engineering
