About the Department
This position reports directly to the Dean and is responsible for the daily operations of the Respiratory Care Program. This position provides leadership and oversight for program administration, curriculum management, accreditation activities, student success initiatives, and instructional effectiveness. The coordinator is responsible for teaching assigned courses, developing and revising curriculum, evaluating student performance, advising students, and supporting the continued growth and success of the program.
Responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the Respiratory Care Program, including curriculum development, outcomes assessment, accreditation compliance, advisory committee activities, budget management, and facilities coordination. The coordinator is also responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating adjunct faculty as needed and ensuring program operations align with institutional, accreditation, and industry standards
The successful candidate will actively support student development through academic advising, recruitment activities, retention initiatives, and, as appropriate, job placement assistance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining course materials and syllabi, participating in instructional development, maintaining office hours, meeting reporting deadlines, serving on college committees, engaging in professional development activities, and performing other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Position Duties
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience as an NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist, including at least two (2) years of clinical respiratory care experience. Candidates must also have a minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapist entry program as either an adjunct faculty member or clinical preceptor.
Current South Carolina licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required. Candidates must possess, or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, a specialty respiratory credential such as AE-C or NPS.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge of respiratory care education, accreditation standards, curriculum development, student assessment, and program management. Knowledge of the accreditation process and experience supporting accreditation compliance are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will possess excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, clinical partners, and community stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to function effectively in an environment characterized by evolving technology and changing priorities.
