Join the Department of Transportation as a Roadside Technician 2 and help keep Chester County roadsides clean, safe, and well cared for. Position Duties

This role supports roadside vegetation maintenance through structured assignments involving field work, planning, and contractor oversight. You will assist with ensuring roadside activities meet safety standards and operational needs. As a Roadside Technician 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Contract Planning: Research contract needs and analyze historical usage to prepare moderately complex specifications
  • Field Investigations: Conduct site reviews for mowing, tree work, litter pickup, landscaping, and rest area concerns
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare cost and quantity estimates and create bid proposals for roadside maintenance work
  • Contract Oversight: Monitor contractor progress, verify compliance with requirements, and adjust schedules when needed
  • Equipment Inspection: Perform pre service inspections on contractor equipment before work begins
  • Record Maintenance: Track budgets, usage data, and daily field activities to maintain accurate roadside maintenance records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week, after 6 month probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Coatesville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in technical landscaping, roadside development, or soil conservation work; and graduation from high school; or
  • One year as a Roadside Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year experience in technical landscaping or roadside development activities and an Associate's Degree in agricultural, forestry, landscape technology, or a related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
