Lead programs that protect public health while making a statewide, national, and international impact. As the Sanitarian 7, you'll oversee critical environmental health initiatives, including Commercial Seafood, Molluscan Shellfish, Special Operations, and Beach Monitoring programs, helping safeguard Louisiana's seafood industry and the health of consumers worldwide. This leadership role offers the opportunity to manage high-impact programs, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and travel throughout Louisiana while driving initiatives that make a lasting difference.

Position Duties

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following, which must include two years of experience at the supervisory level or above:

Five years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus four years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties:

  • Direct and oversee the Commercial Seafood and Molluscan Shellfish programs by establishing strategic goals, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring program objectives are achieved. 
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to professional and technical staff, including hiring, training, performance management, employee development, and disciplinary actions. 
  • Evaluate organizational structure, staffing, and resource allocation to improve operational efficiency and ensure effective program delivery. 
  • Develop, manage, and monitor program budgets, conduct fiscal analyses, and oversee grant and contract funding to ensure compliance with financial requirements and funding deadlines. 
  • Administer and evaluate program data systems, monitor performance metrics, and ensure compliance with state and federal inspection, reporting, and regulatory standards. 
  • Collaborate with federal, state, and industry partners to strengthen program operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and support public health initiatives affecting Louisiana's seafood industry. 
  • Advise executive leadership on program policies, legislative matters, and regulatory issues, including developing proposed legislation, revising applicable sections of the Louisiana Sanitary Code, and representing the agency before legislative and regulatory bodies.
