| CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION | ||||||||||||
| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in the State of Arizona; evidence of completion of a physical assessment skills course; eligible for Arizona School Nurse Certification; current CPR Certification PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience, education or experience in pediatric nursing or urgent care nursing; ability to work effectively with many people; knowledge of handicapped children; and physical assessment skills with sports injuries MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluate health care needs of students; maintain records as deemed necessary by the school physician and in compliance with State laws; administer medications and maintain records including dosages and untoward effects; educate students in personal hygiene and total health care; assist with doctor's clinics to describe the student's condition to the physician and interpret the medical information to the student and his/her parents; keep current medical records on each student; conduct routine surveys and annual screenings; keep parents apprised of student health status; work with physicians at the Student Health Center and throughout the State of Arizona; manage student emergencies related to accidents and health care; communicate student health care needs to the instructional staff; and take sign language classes for communication with deaf students SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Good knowledge of assessment and treatment of children four (4) to twenty-two (22) years of age; good planning, organization, and communication skills; injury assessment skills helpful SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position requires pre-employment drug testing and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of employment. | ||||||||||||
