Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

This social media position offers hands-on experience in digital marketing and social media strategy while representing the University of Richmond Museums. You'll create engaging Instagram content that showcases the visual arts experience to students, faculty and staff, current community members, and alumni.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Content Creation & Management

  • Produce 3-4 high-quality social media posts per month.

  • Generate and submit at least one new content idea weekly through our Airtable system.

  • Create videos (vertical format, 16x9 ratio), photos (portrait orientation, 4x5 ratio), and graphics that align with university brand standards.

  • Write compelling captions that reflect the university's casual, friendly, and professional tone. 

  • Ensure all content includes proper attribution, handles for tagging, and accessibility features.

  • Personal sharing of museum-created content on individual accounts is encouraged.

Meeting Participation & Collaboration

  • Attend mandatory weekly team meetings with museum staff.

  • Present content ideas and drafts for team review and feedback.

  • Collaborate with museum staff and visitor engagement assistants.

  • Communicate proactively about schedule changes or project updates.

Brand  Representation & Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism while creating content that represents the museum.

  • Follow the museum and university brand guidelines.

  • Obtain proper photo releases from all individuals featured in the content.

  • Ensure content accessibility through closed captioning and alt text.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Personal social media accounts on major platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Strong visual storytelling abilities and basic photography/videography skills.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

  • Reliable access to a smartphone or camera equipment.

Preferred:

  • Creative mindset with fresh ideas for engaging college-age audiences.

  • Understanding of current social media trends and best practices.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Professional demeanor with the ability to represent the university positively.

  • Collaborative spirit and openness to feedback.

  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PAY GRADE: SP Student 3, (starting rate $13.75)
