Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The security division of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Department of Public Safety concentrates on the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and on campus. The department provides field officers, Bike and mobile patrol, investigators, and a communication unit for monitoring alarm systems and dispatching officers to service and emergency calls. All officers are required to complete annual training that focuses on health care security.

Role Purpose

Schedules and coordinates activities of security personnel and performs other duties as required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Plans, organizes, oversees and provides coaching and training to the security force.
  • Develops long range security plan, modifies existing security practices and develops new security policies and protocols as needed.
  • Responds to emergency situations according to approved, established Security Department protocol.
  • Completes routine patrol activities while being alert and attentive to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, volunteers, staff, employees, and hospital property.
  • Demonstrates current and accurate knowledge of mitigating crisis situations such as code responses, responding to disturbances, fires and disaster drills and situations.
  • Minimum Requirements

    Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience

  • 2-5 years
  • Supervisor Experience

  • < 2 years
  • Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • PD - PSAL- Where Applicable
  • Preferred Requirements
