A Senior Event Planning Manager is responsible for developing market segments and soliciting both new and existing customer relationships. Represents the hotel at conferences and other external sales presentations to groups and prospective customers to solicit, explain, negotiate, and close group and local catering business. Meets with and entertains customers, conducts property tours, participates in tradeshows, industry and community events to promote facilities and services. Negotiates contracts and establishes agreements with vendors. Maximizes revenue and promotes relationships through negotiation of services and prices.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 2+ years of hotel sales experience.
- 3+ years of food and beverage experience.
- Strong understanding of negotiation and interpretation of contracts.
- Demonstrated strong business communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to direct/motivate event sales department to meet and exceed goals.
- Proactive sales approach, assertive and fast paced, driven to succeed.
- Execute and support Hotel Customer Service Standards and Hotel’s Brand Standards.
- Understanding of respective market segment, competitor’s strengths, weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand.
- Work well under pressure.
- Time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering successful outcomes for each.
- Ability to communicate effectively with public and other employees.
- Creativity in designing events.
- Working knowledge of banquet department (sets, AV equipment, scheduling, menu planning).
- Ability to design menus in conjunction with the culinary department to maximize operating profit.
- Strong working knowledge of hotel sales/event CRM systems (e.g., Delphi, Marriott CI/TY, Starwood ISAC, or Hyatt Envision/EMS).
- Working knowledge of statistical data and analytics as they relate to hotel operations and the event sales department.
