Description

The Senior Radiology Manager is responsible for the overall administrative and operational management of radiology services across a large healthcare institution. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality imaging services while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing departmental efficiency, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement. The Senior Radiology Manager leads a multidisciplinary team and collaborates with physicians, administrators, and other clinical leaders to support patient care excellence.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities                                
•    Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities of the radiology department.
•    Lead and oversee all imaging services, including diagnostic radiology, MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
•    Supervise and mentor radiology supervisors, technologists, and support staff; oversee staffing levels, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
•    Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including ACR, JCAHO, CMS, HIPAA, and other governing bodies.
•    Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure quality assurance, patient safety, and regulatory readiness.
•    Partner with radiologists, referring physicians, and clinical teams to optimize workflow and enhance service delivery.
•    Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), patient satisfaction scores, and operational metrics; implement corrective actions as needed.
•    Maintains the Quality Control Program for the Technical services in the department in conjunction with the Radiation Safety Officer.
•    Ensures daily and monthly QA/QC is performed on imaging equipment within the scope of responsibilities
•    Completes and submits annual employee evaluations for all staff under his/her direction.
•    Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of radiology activities.  Identify resource needs, recommend and implement policies and procedures.
•    Perform payroll functions to include input of data in time keeping system.
•    Ensures all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications.
•    Develops management systems for equipment usage, space allocation, personnel activities, etc.
•    Maintains and provides detailed reports of productivity, patient care, sentinel events, equipment and quality assurance measures.
•    Maintains currency in Radiological procedures and diagnostic methodologies. Attends seminars and conferences in relevant areas.
•    Serves as liaison between technical/supervisory technical staff and senior leadership, as well as others external to the department.
•    Ensures that work schedules, rotations, overtime and on-call schedules are maintained and controlled.
•    Communicates with staff.  Everyone on the staff understands goals and objectives and how they support the department’s, hospital’s mission and vision.
•    Select, train, motivate, and evaluate personnel.  Provide and/or coordinate staff training.
•    Work with employees to correct deficiencies.  Implement discipline procedures.
•    Other duties as assigned.
 


Qualifications

Education Requirements                                         
?    Graduate of an AMA/J.C.E.R.T. approved program in Radiologic Technology or equivocal Sonography/Nuclear Medicine program.  
?    Bachelor?s degree in Radiologic Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field required.

Experience Requirements                                
?    Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in radiology or imaging services, including 5 years in a management or supervisory role.
?    Demonstrated experience managing large, multi-modality radiology departments in an acute care or academic medical center setting.
?    Experience with regulatory surveys and compliance (e.g., The Joint Commission, ACR accreditation).


Licensing and Certification Requirements                                
?    New York State License (L.R.T.).
?    American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
?    Or at least one of the following: ARDMS, NMTCB

Physical Requirements
?    Occasional to prolonged sitting, typing, and working at a computer.
?    Frequent standing, walking between departments and clinical areas.
?    Occasional lifting or carrying of office supplies and documents (up to 20 pounds).

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $127044 - $190565 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
