Senior Quality Control Inspector – Civil
Play an integral role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and compliance of critical civil construction activities that support the successful delivery of major capital projects. As a Senior Quality Control Inspector – Civil, you will serve as a trusted subject matter expert responsible for verifying that civil works, materials, workmanship, and installation activities meet project specifications, customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
This highly visible field-based role provides the opportunity to work closely with engineering, construction, project management, contractors, testing agencies, and customer representatives to ensure quality requirements are achieved throughout project execution. Your technical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to operational excellence will directly contribute to safe, reliable, and successful project outcomes.
Purpose of the role
The Senior Quality Control Inspector – Civil is responsible for performing advanced inspection, surveillance, verification, and quality control activities associated with civil construction, structural foundations, earthwork, concrete placement, underground utilities, paving, site development, and related infrastructure systems. Acting as a senior technical resource, you will independently evaluate work for compliance with project specifications, approved procedures, applicable codes, and customer requirements.
You will provide technical guidance to project teams, support quality improvement initiatives, and help ensure civil construction activities are executed safely and efficiently while minimizing rework and maintaining compliance with project quality objectives. In addition to inspection responsibilities, you may provide work direction and mentoring to inspectors and quality personnel while supporting project and departmental quality programs.
You will be responsible for:
- Performing detailed inspections, surveillance activities, and quality verification of civil construction activities including earthwork, grading, foundations, concrete work, underground utilities, paving, structural installations, and site development activities.
- Verifying compliance with project specifications, construction drawings, approved procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Reviewing civil design drawings, construction documents, quality plans, inspection and test plans, specifications, and field work packages.
- Monitoring contractor and subcontractor performance to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
- Conducting inspections of excavation activities, foundation construction, reinforcing steel placement, concrete formwork, concrete placement, backfill operations, compaction testing, and related civil works.
- Witnessing and verifying testing activities performed by laboratories, contractors, and third-party inspection agencies.
- Identifying, documenting, and communicating non-conformances while supporting the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinating with engineering, construction, quality, and customer representatives to resolve quality-related issues efficiently.
- Supporting quality audits, surveillance programs, compliance reviews, and readiness assessments.
- Reviewing test reports, inspection records, and quality documentation to ensure completeness and compliance.
- Monitoring construction activities to verify conformance with contractual, regulatory, and project quality requirements.
- Maintaining accurate inspection records, reports, field documentation, and quality tracking systems.
- Supporting turnover and project completion activities by ensuring quality requirements are satisfied prior to handover.
- Identifying recurring quality concerns and recommending improvements to enhance execution performance and reduce rework.
- Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and work direction to inspectors and quality personnel as required.
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of inspection processes, quality systems, procedures, and reporting tools.
- Promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the project.

What you’ll bring to the role
You bring a strong combination of civil construction expertise, field quality experience, technical knowledge, and problem-solving capability gained through supporting complex construction and infrastructure projects.
- Technical school certification, trade qualification, engineering technology degree, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and industry experience.
- Typically 7+ years of experience in civil quality control, civil construction inspection, construction management, field engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience performing civil inspections within industrial, energy, chemicals, resources, manufacturing, infrastructure, power generation, or construction environments.
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, site development practices, concrete construction, reinforcing steel installation, structural foundations, utilities, grading, and paving operations.
- Experience interpreting civil drawings, engineering specifications, construction standards, and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable civil construction codes, industry standards, testing requirements, and quality management practices.
- Experience witnessing and reviewing soil testing, compaction testing, concrete testing, reinforcing steel inspections, and related quality verification activities.
- Proven ability to independently evaluate construction quality and verify compliance with technical requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Experience supporting contractor quality oversight and third-party inspection coordination.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to effectively interact with project teams, contractors, engineers, testing agencies, and customers.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and execute multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
- Advanced understanding of inspection systems, quality reporting tools, document management systems, and project quality processes.
- Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Professional certifications related to civil inspection, concrete inspection, soils testing, or quality management are considered an asset.
