SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR-WV DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM-KANAWHA CO.  



POSITION DETAILS


The West Virginia Department of Tourism Marketing and Consumer Insights Team is accepting applications for the Social Media Coordinator position. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Marketing and Consumer Insights, the position will be responsible for assisting with content creation, social execution, blog writing and community management. 


The position requires full-time work during business hours, Monday through Friday. 


The job opportunity is not a Civil Service position and is not covered under the Administrative Rule of the WV Division of Personnel. The state of West Virginia offers competitive benefits. The job is located in Charleston, WV. Remote work is not permitted. Some day and overnight travel is required. 


SAMPLE DUTIES


  • Develop and plan social media content to be used on a wide range of platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and Pinterest.

  • Closely follow social media trends to create innovative content for Instagram Reels.

  • Schedule and implement social media content using social media management software as well as in-platform tools.

  • Possess an awareness and interest in social media trends and innovative best practices.

  • Execute thorough and on-brand community management communications.

  • Serve as the first line of contact for social media followers, with a focus on platform management and social listening.

  • Monitor social media platforms and produce monthly reports, tracking success and identifying areas of growth.

  • Write and create brand blog content to be shared on social media, using a content marketing, results-focused strategy.

  • Provide assistance with our digital marketing platforms, including but not limited to email and website.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED


  • Skill in oral and written communications.

  • Skill in excellent copywriting abilities.

  • Ability to take ownership of projects and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with different teams and independently.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Ability to establish good public relations and maintain a favorable working relationship with a wide variety of professional groups.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for work and conferences.

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace.

  • Interest in learning new systems. 

  • Additional duties as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications


Training: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications or a related field is required. 


Experience: The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year of experience in marketing, advertising or a related field.
