The Integrated Innovation Institute at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a social media intern to join the Marketing team. The selected intern will work on projects alongside the Assistant Director of Social Media across content creation, analytics reporting, and research.

Core responsibilities:

  • Support daily social media operations across Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn,  including drafting copy, identifying engagement opportunities, and monitoring community conversations.
  • Create viral short-form video, text, and image content on a fast-paced team
  • Assist with monthly reporting using Sprout Social and help the Assistant Social Media Director in establishing new methods of data storytelling & visualization.
  • Participate in brainstorms and help shape social and community strategies.
  • Attend ad agency meetings, gaining exposure to paid social media opportunities and processes
  • Draft captions, text overlays, and community responses under guidance
  • Monitor trends, sounds, and cultural moments relevant to the Integrated Innovation Institute
  • Contribute to social and other marketing projects with guidance tailored to your personal growth
  • Collaborate with key partners to develop ideas and content
  • Support the coordination of other projects across marketing as needed

You should demonstrate:

  • Curiosity about higher education and innovation
  • Strong organizational habits, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment
  • Willingness to learn new tools like Miro and Monday.com

Qualifications:

  • Strong familiarity with major social platforms (YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn) and current digital trends.
  • Solid writing skills with an ability to craft clear, engaging, and on-brand social copy.
  • Basic understanding of social media analytics and comfort with learning tools like Sprout Social.
  • Experience designing in Adobe software or Canva
  • Video editing skills
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Additional Information:

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  The university is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
  • This is a fixed term position, expected to last through the summer months.
  • This is a part-time position, expected to work approximately 30 hours per week.
