About this role

Overview:

The Software Developer Specialist 1 is an entry-level IT Systems Integration role that helps build, support, and maintain custom applications and integrations across the credit union. The role emphasizes automating business processes and developing cloud-based solutions. Under guidance from senior developers, the role delivers well-tested code, supports automation and cloud initiatives, and contributes across the SDLC (requirements through maintenance) on defined components and enhancements. The position improves efficiency and reduces risk through standards, automated testing, and repeatable deployments.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain .NET web apps, APIs, and scheduled jobs by implementing defined features and fixes with senior guidance
  • Support requirements analysis by gathering information, asking clarifying questions, and documenting requirements
  • Help break down work and support estimates and timelines for assigned items
  • Contribute to designs by following established patterns and proposing improvements for review
  • Convert acceptance criteria into unit/integration tests using existing frameworks; incorporate code review feedback
  • Write clean, maintainable code aligned with established architecture and coding standards
  • Execute test plans, troubleshoot defects, and document results for performance/system/UAT testing
  • Support CI/CD by maintaining build/test pipelines and improving deployment automation
  • Deploy, configure, and validate systems in lower and production environments using runbooks and change procedures
  • Follow change management procedures for enhancements and deployments
  • Provide timely support for assigned software and services; escalate issues as needed
  • Maintain and enhance existing systems by implementing approved changes and supporting incident/problem resolution
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (design notes, runbooks, release notes) for completed work
  • Adhere to established development standards, guidelines, and procedures
  • Provide status updates on assigned tasks and deliverables
  • Support RPA solutions for internal Windows and web applications
  • Support the enterprise scheduler by assisting with scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting; coordinate reruns/escalations per runbooks
  • Support MuleSoft Anypoint APIs by assisting with configuration, monitoring, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Protect the confidentiality and integrity of financial sensitive information and maintain the technical mechanisms of legitimate access and release of the data to meet the requirements of the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA)
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Qualifications:

Required

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, a related Information Technology field, or equivalent education, training, and/or experience in software delivery
  • Minimum 1 year of software development experience (including internships or co-ops with demonstrable project work), or experience in an adjacent technical role (QA, support, analyst, or IT) with demonstrated ability to build automation, scripts, or internal tools
  • Working knowledge of .NET (C#) and ability to learn and apply existing patterns and frameworks
  • Experience developing or consuming REST APIs; SOAP exposure preferred
  • Foundational understanding of scalable application design (e.g., layered/n-tier architectures)
  • Experience contributing to web and/or standalone application development
  • Ability to write basic to intermediate SQL; work with schemas and ERDs with guidance
  • Knowledge of the SDLC; familiarity with agile methods and object-oriented programming
  • Strong verbal/written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work in a team, build relationships, and manage multiple tasks with guidance
  • Availability to work on-site in Herndon, VA and remotely
  • Availability to work M–F, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

Preferred

  • Preferred certifications: .NET and/or Azure; MuleSoft exposure a plus
  • Financial services (banking/credit union) IT experience
  • Exposure to Fiserv DNA, Core API, and/or DNA REST API
  • Familiarity with OpCon and related fundamentals: reverse proxy/network relay, SSL/TLS certificates, DNS, ports/firewalls; security/access concepts (AD/LDAP, SSO (SAML/OAuth), RBAC); and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, and/or Python)
