About this role

As a Software Engineer, Apprentice at Jack Henry, you will join an innovative team building modular, cloud‑native solutions that power real‑time ledgering, payments, deposit services, and emerging digital asset capabilities for financial institutions. This apprenticeship is designed to provide hands‑on engineering experience in a collaborative, forward‑thinking environment known for exploring next‑generation technologies and developing early‑career talent into successful full‑time Software Engineers. Upon successful program completion, the goal is to transition this role into a full‑time Software Engineer I position.  The hourly wage for this position is $25.00. The role is scheduled for 30–40 hours per week, depending on the selected candidate’s availability. This position follows a hybrid work model, with three days onsite and two days remote, from any Jack Henry office location. Remote work within a 70‑mile radius of a Jack Henry hub may be considered for candidates who meet all minimum and preferred qualifications. What You’ll Be Responsible For:  Collaborating with experienced engineers to design, implement, test, and support backend microservices. Participating in requirements gathering, whiteboarding sessions, and architecture discussions. Supporting proof of concept development, implementation planning, and feature build‑outs. Assisting with infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and observability integration. Participating in incident response, troubleshooting, and maintaining reliable system health. Working daily with business analysts, engineers, and product management, plus partnering with UI/UX and other technical teams across Jack Henry. Building foundational knowledge of fintech, payments, digital assets, Web3 concepts, and modern financial infrastructure What You’ll Need to Have:  All apprentice candidates must: Be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Meet legal requirements to work in the U.S. for an indefinite period of time. Basic exposure to programming concepts or introductory coding experience (coursework, self‑taught learning, personal projects, or bootcamps). Demonstrated drive and motivation to learn technical skills in a structured training environment. Strong problem‑solving and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an agile team setting. Familiarity with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go,  Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, C++). Basic understanding of computer science fundamentals such as scripting, databases, or introductory software engineering concepts. Ability to follow structured training, complete required on‑the‑job learning, and participate in guided skill development. What Would Be Nice for You to Have:  Foundational programming experience in backend or object‑oriented development. Basic knowledge of RESTful APIs and service interaction. Familiarity with version control tools (Git/GitHub) and Agile tools (e.g., Jira). Demonstrated interest in fintech, digital assets, Web3, cryptocurrency, or stablecoins.
