Compensation 

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $73,920 - $95,495.40. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.  

 

Available Shift 

  • 1st shift: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday (Onsite) 

  

Join Our Team as a Software Engineer I (Early Talent Program)! 

S&C Electric Company works to build innovative solutions with the smart grid as a part of the electric power distribution system. 

 

We are seeking a full-time software engineer who would enjoy a fast paced, dynamic team-based work environment. Rotations typically last for 18 to 24 months after which time the individual is placed in a permanent position. This position is available in Chicago, IL.  

 

You can expect to be challenged and have ample opportunity to learn valuable skills within an agile, communicative, and fun environment. 

Some of our opportunities might include Embedded Firmware Development, Integrated Test Automation, Web based user interfaces, and IoT Device Communication. 

 

 

What needs to be done? 

  • Work with cross functional team members to coordinate the development of software applications 

  • Follow best development practices and work in an Agile environment 

  • Have a proactive approach to improving the application with every feature release 

  • Learn the latest technologies and collaborate with your fellow team members 

  • Work with team members to coordinate the development of new features 

  • Produce unit, functional, and integration tests when possible 

  • Participate in peer code reviews 

  • Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code 

  • Understand the overall application framework and architecture 

  • Write technical documents, including architecture diagrams and API descriptions 

  

What You’ll Need To Succeed: 

  • Must have a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD level at an accredited university majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems or related major. 

  • Understanding of data modelling concepts and various data storage formats (JSON, XML) 

  • Understanding of common data structures and algorithms. 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  

Knowledge of the following is a plus so please highlight this in your resume: 

  • Embedded Firmware development 

  • FPGA development 

  • AI assisted coding and review 

  • Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) 

  • Android or iOS programming 

  • Java 

  • React JS 

  • Git 

  • HTML/CSS 

  • C/C++ 

  • Python 

  • API (Rest) 

  • IoT (any protocol or tools) 

  • Bluetooth 

  • Hands on experience with Linux 

  • Understanding of relational and non-relational databases 

  • Signal processing 

  • Experience debugging and validating designs with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers 

  

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Standing: Occasional standing for work 

  • Lifting: Occasional lifting of controls and test equipment, less than 50 pounds 

  • Walking: Occasional walking throughout the facility 

  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects 

  • Pushing: Infrequent pushing of objects, possibly related to rearrangement work 

  • Pulling: Infrequent pulling of objects, possibly related to rearrangement work 

  • Bending: Occasional bending during access to equipment 

  • Reaching: Infrequent reaching 

  • Handling: Frequent handling of parts or tools 

  • Environment: Standard office / desktop workspace
