About this role
What’s the role?
This internship is designed for final-year engineering students (graduating in mid-2027) who are eager to learn by doing and gain hands-on experience in a real engineering environment.
You’ll join Etsy’s Summer Internship Program, a full-time experience running from June 2 to August 29, 2026. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers who will mentor you, guide you through real technical challenges, and help you build strong engineering fundamentals.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. You’ll collaborate with an amazing team committed to supporting your growth and guiding you toward best practices.
What does the day-to-day look like?
As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll focus on learning the core skills of a professional engineer while contributing to real product work. Your responsibilities will include:
- Working on narrowly defined tasks with clear instructions and support
- Contributing to parts of Etsy’s application stack, including back-end technologies
- Writing, testing, and improving code as part of a collaborative team
- Learning how software is designed, built, tested, and deployed in a production environment
- Asking questions, seeking feedback, and continuously improving your technical skills
- Collaborating with engineers, product partners, and other interns in a supportive environment
Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise to adhere with local law.
This role is meant to be a learning experience. Your responsibilities may evolve over time as you grow, learn, and take on more ownership.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role:
You don’t need to know everything; we’re looking for potential, not perfection. The following qualities will help you succeed:
- Comfort debugging familiar code, and willingness to work through unfamiliar code with guidance
- Basic experience organizing work from idea to delivery (school projects count!)
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly, or a strong desire to build that skill
- Exposure to back-end technologies, OR
- Apps, projects, or coursework that demonstrate a strong product mindset
You’ll succeed by:
- Acting on feedback and mentorship
- Being curious and proactive about learning new technologies
- Collaborating respectfully in a cross-functional team
- Taking responsibility for your work while knowing when to ask for help
If you’re excited to learn, build real software, and grow alongside kind, talented engineers, this role is for you!
