About the Department

As a Special Investigator 2 with the Insurance Department, you will help keep Pennsylvania’s insurance marketplace honest and reliable. This role allows you to dig into complex cases, analyze evidence, and support actions that protect policyholders. Position Duties

This position focuses on investigating possible violations of insurance laws and reviewing evidence to support enforcement actions. As a Special Investigator 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Investigative Work: Examine insurance company and producer records to identify possible violations
  • Evidence Review: Collect and analyze statements, documents, and other materials to determine compliance with insurance laws
  • Report Preparation: Write detailed reports that outline investigative steps, findings, and recommended actions
  • Hearing Support: Prepare evidence and provide testimony at departmental hearings or criminal proceedings
  • Case Coordination: Manage multiple investigations at once and organize required tasks to complete each case
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain a consistent level of professionalism when interacting with industry representatives and the public


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of professional experience in criminal, civil, or administrative investigation work, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
