About this role

Construction Business Services is seeking a highly motivated, customer service oriented, and resourceful individual to join its team and contribute to the success of a diverse and growing department within Construction. The successful candidate must be able to recognize the critical importance of teamwork and personal accountability. The ideal candidate for this position must be well organized, meticulous, demonstrate a high energy level, and understand the vital importance of effective stakeholder management and commitment to excellence. This individual must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, make sound business decisions, render independent judgments, maintain personal accountability, collaborate with multiple teams, and have a positive work ethic. This position will manage a team, collaborate with multiple internal business units and external government agencies to secure permits and ensure adherence to all applicable laws, policies, and procedures. This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage and support Con Edisons Permit Management operations within NYC boroughs and interaction with NY City Department of Transportation, NY State Department of Transportation, and other agencies as applicable.
  • Lead and develop a team of union employees to secure DOT permits, ensuring compliance, timely processing, and alignment with stakeholder objectives. Provide leadership, training, motivation, and monitor performance of team.
  • Verify that accurate information is being uploaded into contractor job packages
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal departments, including Construction Management Gas & Electric, Public Improvement, Gas Operations, Electric Operations, and others.
  • Develop and foster strong stakeholder relationships. Liaise between internal and external stakeholders to address and resolve permitting concerns.
  • Perform monthly accruals for NYC permits.
  • Act as a liaison to technology groups to troubleshoot technical issues with CworX, Electronic Package System (EPS), and other platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations of NY State and City Department of Transportation, and other agencies.
  • Develop pertinent reports and presentations. Routinely communicate with customer groups regarding performance and necessary improvement areas.
  • Identify key strategic initiatives and pursue opportunities to enhance continuous improvement and deliver added value to the organization. Lead initiatives to standardize and improve the permit application process, ensuring efficiency and compliance. across all Municipalities.
  • Provide support for the Section Manager and Director with issues such as monitoring and tracking overall departmental performance related to department goals, performance metrics, and other assigned tasks necessary for the success of the department.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years relevant experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years relevant experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and can effectively interact with customers, support staff, contractors, regulatory agencies, and various levels of management, required.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, required. Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder partnerships required.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office platforms including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, required.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully complete multiple tasks without compromising quality or timelines, required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with governmental agencies, including Municipalities, the Department of Transportation (DOT) or similar Municipal or State agencies, preferred.
  • Experience using Oracle platforms, EPS, CworX Maximo ROPES. Agile with learning new systems, preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff, preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, including Utilities, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Upon Hire Required

  • Possess manual dexterity and the ability to use hands for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
  • Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • The selected candidate must be able to travel to various locations throughout the Companys service territory as needed.
