Position Summary
The Dean of Students serves as a student-centered leader who fosters a positive, structured, and relationship-driven school culture. This individual works collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to support student growth, strengthen classroom culture, and promote restorative approaches to discipline and accountability. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator who is passionate about building strong relationships, coaching teachers, and helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Support & School Culture
- Build positive relationships with students and serve as a visible presence throughout the school day.
- Support students in developing responsibility, self-regulation, and problem-solving skills.
- Lead restorative discipline practices that prioritize reflection, accountability, and repairing relationships.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a safe, respectful, and structured school environment.
- Support student attendance, behavior monitoring, and intervention planning.
Family Partnership
- Communicate proactively and professionally with families regarding student behavior, growth, and support plans.
- Partner with parents to address student concerns in a collaborative and solutions-oriented manner.
- Facilitate restorative conversations and meetings when needed.
Teacher Support & Instructional Leadership
- Coach and support teachers in implementing strong classroom management and consistent discipline practices.
- Assist teachers in developing proactive systems that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure schoolwide expectations and procedures are consistently implemented.
- Provide guidance and support during challenging student situations.
- Help cultivate a culture of mutual respect, accountability, and professionalism among staff and students.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with administration, counselors, and teachers to support the social-emotional and behavioral needs of students.
- Participate in school leadership initiatives, student support meetings, and family conferences.
- Contribute positively to the mission and culture of the school community.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience required.
- Experience working with middle school-aged students strongly preferred.
- Additional experience working with elementary-aged students is a plus.
- Demonstrated strength in classroom management and restorative discipline practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and support teachers effectively.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
