Staff Accountant – Store Accounting (Entry to Mid‑Level)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support our Store Accounting team through financial analysis, reporting, and data review related to store operations. This role is ideal for an early‑career accounting professional who enjoys working with data, learning retail accounting processes, and contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with team members to analyze transactional data, prepare recurring reports, research variances, and support month‑end activities. Responsibilities may evolve as the business and store accounting processes continue to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with analyzing store‑level and transaction‑based financial data to identify trends and unusual activity.
- Prepare recurring reports to support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial processes.
- Research variances and discrepancies and summarize findings for review by senior team members.
- Support balance sheet and income statement activities related to store operations.
- Assist with the preparation of journal entries by gathering and reviewing supporting documentation.
- Develop and run ad‑hoc reports using various systems and data sources.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Support documentation and compliance with internal accounting controls and procedures.
- Participate in process improvement and reporting enhancement initiatives.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or progress toward completion).
- One to two years of accounting, finance, or analytical experience preferred; internships or co‑op experience will be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Access or other reporting tools is a plus.
- Ability to work with large volumes of data in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and store accounting concepts.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to retail, store accounting, or high‑transaction environments.
- Experience with accounting or reconciliation systems (e.g., PDI, Trintech ReconNet, or similar).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to use a computer for data entry and analysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively by phone and through virtual collaboration tools.
