Position Overview
The Staff Accountant supports the execution of core accounting activities while partnering with senior team members to strengthen internal controls, improve business processes, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role performs a range of general accounting responsibilities across multiple functional areas, including cost accounting, fixed assets, cash management, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable and payable, and general ledger activities. The position also contributes to cross-functional initiatives, process improvements, and financial planning efforts that support organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Execution
- Perform general accounting activities in accordance with GAAP and company policies to maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for assigned accounts, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Maintain the integrity of subledgers by applying internal controls and standardized accounting procedures across areas such as fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and inventory.
- Prepare and review journal entries submitted by cross-functional partners, ensuring appropriate documentation and alignment with accounting standards.
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports and internal reporting packages to support business decision-making.
- Assist with cash management activities, including account reconciliations, balance reporting, investment tracking, and cash flow forecasting.
- Support external audit activities by preparing schedules, assembling supporting documentation, and validating financial data and disclosures.
- Maintain current accounting documentation and ensure procedures are consistently applied across the organization.
- Contribute to safeguarding company assets through the execution and monitoring of effective internal controls.
- Stay informed on GAAP developments and assist with the implementation of new accounting standards as required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Gather and analyze financial data to support initiatives aimed at enhancing reporting accuracy, transparency, and business insight.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, and automation within accounting processes and reporting workflows.
- Assist in the development of financial forecasts and projections, including balance sheet, cash flow, and expense planning.
- Provide financial summaries and performance insights to leadership, adapting reporting to meet evolving business needs.
- Support preparation of the Annual Operating Plan and contribute to longer-term strategic planning efforts.
- Participate in cross-functional projects such as system implementations, technical initiatives, and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Collaborate with process improvement teams to address operational or accounting challenges and drive sustainable solutions.

Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year college or university required.
- Exposure to core accounting functions such as general ledger, fixed assets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or reconciliations through internship or professional experience preferred.
- Strong academic performance preferred for early-career candidates.
- CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA designation preferred.
- Experience in a consumer-packaged goods (CPG) or manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, including the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data; working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook required.
- Internal Only: Experience with Community Coffee, even if unrelated, may fulfill this requirement at the discretion of the hiring manager with approval from Human Resources.
