About this role

The Staff Accountant will handle month-end close and monthly reconciliation responsibilities. This position will work with all levels of management and must have strong verbal and written communication skills. SHM is growing and as such, this individual must be open to change. This role will be challenged to take ownership over its responsibilities and to seek, propose, and drive process improvements across its areas of responsibilities. This role suits an energetic person who can be innovative and flexible. The Staff Accountant reports to the Corporate Accounting Supervisor.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the month-end close process by preparing assigned recurring and non-recurring journal entries
  • Prepare monthly GL/sub-ledger reconciliations and prepare monthly analytics (flux analysis)
  • Prepare correcting entries resulting from reconciliation
  • Work closely with various teams in the company (finance, treasury, accounts payable, etc.) to ensure compliance
  • Communicate effectively with corporate operations and marina property personnel to ensure transactions are recorded appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives
  • Assist with preparing and reviewing internal and external audit requests
  • Support group deliverables for management and compliance reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.  

 

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • Entry level position
  • Prior reconciliation experience a plus
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with automated accounting programs and systems
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written format
  • Must have experience multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Knowledge of and experience with NetSuite and/or BlackLine a plus
  • Any skills considered standard that a Staff Accountant should possess
