Staff Accountant - Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center
Signet Health is currently recruiting a Staff Accountant for a New, free-standing psychiatric hospital located at Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center in Midland, TX.

The Accountant performs professional accounting duties including general ledger management, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounts payable functions.
This position ensures compliance with GAAP, Texas regulations, DNV NIAHO® / ISO 9001 standards, CMS requirements, and internal hospital financial policies. The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, timely vendor payments, internal controls, and audit readiness within a behavioral health hospital environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, adjustments, prepaids, depreciation)
- Reconcile accounts monthly, including:
- Cash
- Patient AR
- Accounts Payable
- Payroll liabilities
- Fixed assets
- Insurance receivables
- Support month-end close and assist CFO in preparing financial packages
2. Accounts Payable (Full-Cycle Responsibility)
- Process and code invoices accurately according to chart of accounts
- Perform three-way match (invoice, purchase order, receiving documentation)
- Verify approvals in accordance with hospital purchasing policy
- Maintain vendor master files (W-9s, contracts, compliance documentation)
- Prepare and process check runs, ACH, and wire payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Monitor AP aging and ensure timely payments
- Support and prepare annual 1099 filings
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and segregation of duties
3. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Assist in developing departmental and hospital-wide budgets
- Analyze variances in revenue, expenses, and productivity
- Provide financial data to support operational and strategic planning
4. Accounts Receivable & Revenue Cycle Coordination
- Work with the Business Office to reconcile patient billing and cash posting
- Track payer reimbursements and identify variances
- Support denial management and revenue cycle audits
- Assist CFO in reviewing contractual allowances and net revenue adjustments
5. Payroll & Employee Compensation Support
- Review and reconcile payroll reports for accuracy
- Assist with payroll journal entries and accruals
- Reconcile payroll liabilities (benefits, taxes, retirement contributions)
- Support HR in resolving payroll discrepancies
6. Compliance, Audit & Regulatory Requirements
Ensure adherence to:
- DNV NIAHO® / ISO 9001 standards
- GAAP
- Texas Administrative Code (healthcare financial practices)
- CMS billing and cost reporting requirements
- HIPAA confidentiality standards
Additional duties:
- Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Document and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls
- Support DNV survey readiness and compliance reviews
7. Cost Control & Financial Operations Support
- Monitor expenses against budget and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Assist department leaders with financial reporting needs
- Track capital expenditures and maintain fixed asset schedules
- Support purchasing compliance and supply chain analytics cash monitoring
- Support deposit verification and cash ledger accuracy
Requirements/Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2–4 years accounting and/or accounts payable experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and AP processes
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
- High attention to detail and confidentiality
Preferred
- Healthcare or behavioral health accounting experience
- Knowledge of DNV or ISO 9001 standards
- Familiarity with hospital revenue cycle and reimbursement
- Experience with ERP systems (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, Oracle, etc.)
- Audit support experience
