About this role
We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant as part of the Accounting team in our downtown Cleveland office. The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for suggesting journal entries, bank and ledger account reconciliation, assisting in the preparation of firm financial statements, interfacing with external accountants, assisting with the year-end financial review, and assisting with the preparation of the firm’s tax return. As a key member of the finance team, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for creating routine and ad-hoc reporting, budgeting, general financial analysis as well as reporting on metrics.

Position Responsibilities Include:
- Support the monthly close process of the firm’s consolidated financial books and records.
- Coordinate and manage client trust transactions from the firm’s IOLTA account.
- Ensure accurate and appropriate recording of monthly journal entries and documentation.
- Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis
- Reconcile various balance sheet and expense accounts.
- Compute and prepare contractor payments.
- Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Prepare various monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management.
- Prepare monthly Sales/Use Tax filings.
- Fixed asset reporting/recording.
- Assist with monthly cash flow reporting.
- Assist with political action committee accounting.
- Assist with unclaimed funds reporting and compliance.
- Assist with importing ACH schedules.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of 1099 forms.
- Assist with audit compliance and submittals.
- Support, as needed, various ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Provide support to the Accounting Manager and CFO
Qualified Applicants Will Have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
- At least two years’ experience working in a law firm or service industry. Public Accounting experience preferred (but not required).
- Must possess strong technical analysis skills, including advanced Excel capabilities.
- Must have the ability to analyze financial data and prepare concise reports to assist management in understanding the variances and make risk assessments.
- The ability to multi-task with minimum supervision is required.
