About this role

Step into a role as Accountant with Bright Horizons, where you will support accounting and analysis related to Bright Horizons’ leases, fixed assets, and other general ledger areas. This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing month‑end close activities, reconciling account balances, and producing monthly financial reports and summaries. The Staff Accountant will also review documentation for accuracy and compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and Bright Horizons’ principles.

This Hybrid role requires in-person work at our Newton, MA headquarters.

Responsibilities:

Depending on the line of business, the position may perform some or all of the below functions:

  • Prepare and record transactions related to fixed asset additions, disposals, and transfers.

  • Prepare daily and monthly journal entries, ensuring accurate account balances and compliance with GAAP.

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, on a monthly basis and investigate and resolve discrepancies.

  • Prepare rent calculations and complete lease‑related accounting procedures in accordance with ASC 842, including CPI adjustments.

  • Communicate regularly with landlords, regional managers, and internal departments to support lease and asset‑related activities.

  • Account for foreign leases in accordance with ASC 842 and enter required data into CoStar.

  • Review accounts payable invoices coded to capital assets to ensure proper classification.

  • Assist with sublease accounting and preparation of landlord tenant improvement allowance invoices, as needed.

  • Support other month‑end close, project‑based accounting activities, and system implementations as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • Internship experience to two years of relevant accounting experience preferred

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applications

  • Experience with Workday and CoStar is a plus

Salary/Hourly Rate and Other Compensation Disclosures:

The annual starting salary for this position is $55,000 - $70,000. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
